Torino star Gleison Bremer says he prefers playing in a three-man defence, boosting Inter and Tottenham’s hopes of signing him and praises Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The Brazil international is one of the hottest commodities in Serie A. Despite a recent contract extension until 2024, he is expected to leave the Granata in the summer for circa €25m.

Inter and Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing him and the Nerazzurri met his agent during the international break in March. Bremer gave hope to the Serie A giants and Tottenham by revealing his favourite tactical system.

When DAZN asked whether he fancies more a three or four-man defence, he replied: “I prefer a three-man defence, because it’s in line with the system with which I’ve consecrated myself. I’ve learned how to use my head on the pitch. It’s not a natural quality, you must learn it.”

Both Inter and Spurs play with a three-man backline, while other clubs linked with his signing, such as Juventus, Milan and Liverpool, usually adopt a four-man defence.

“You need to understand when it’s the right time to press and when you need track back,” Bremer continued.

“You don’t only play with strength or interceptions. It’s more complex. You also need to know your opponents well. If the striker is slow, you must remain close to him and try to get on the ball before him.”

Who are his role models and the defenders he admires the most?

“I’ve always liked Lucio, but considering the contemporary defenders, I think Virgil van Dijk is really strong,” he said.

“He suffered a serious injury, but he has everything: physical strength, quality, sense of position.

“As for Serie A defenders, I say Kalidou Koulibaly.”

  1. I know Conte is a crybaby but jeesh….

If totenham bought all the players they are linked with they would need a double decker bus to go the games.
