Josip Brekalo has landed in Italy with a private jet to complete his transfer to Fiorentina from VfL Wolfsburg.

The 24-year-old midfielder had also been linked with numerous clubs in Italy and abroad, including Udinese, Monza, Napoli and Getafe.

However, the Viola won the race and he was photographed arriving at the airport, where he was all smiles.

His contract with Wolfsburg was due to expire in June anyway, which allowed Fiorentina to do the deal for little more than a percentage of the sell-on fee.

He is set to sign a contract until June 2026 worth €2m per season.

The official Fiorentina social media channel also dropped a hint with an image of a purple piece on a white and red chess board – representing the Croatia jersey.

It is a return to Serie A for Brekalo, who was on loan at Torino last season.

A regular in the Croatia squad, he has 33 senior caps for his country, scoring four goals.
