Gabriel Barbosa’s agent reveals “many Brazilian clubs” are interested in the Inter striker.

The forward, known as Gabigol, arrived from Santos in the summer for a fee of close to €30m, but has so far played just 16 minutes.

That has led to speculation he could leave San Siro in the January transfer window, and it appears a return to Brazil could be in the pipeline.

It has been suggested that Flamengo could be an option, but the club’s President admits it’s a difficult transfer.

“If he leaves to play for a club on the level of Inter, or even more important, then yes it could be Flamengo,” Eduardo Bandeira de Mello told Torcedores.

“Gabigol is an exceptional player, but we know we’re talking about a dream which is unlikely to be achieved.

“I know that, for our fans and in our hearts, Flamengo is bigger than any club but we have to overcome this period of financial recovery before we can reach Inter’s level and negotiate for players like Barbosa at any time.

“There are no negotiations, but I’m happy if his agent considers Flamengo to be on the level of a player like him.

“I can tell you that when I was in the United States to follow Brazil at the Copa America Centenario, he said he’d like to play for Flamengo.

“There’s still plenty of time to achieve his dream and ours.”
