Brahim Diaz credited the ‘incredible’ Milan fans after the Champions League victory over Tottenham and insists their spirit was never the issue.

It was a 1-0 result sealed by Brahim Diaz’s early goal, bundling over the line at the third time of asking, after Fraser Forster had made the saves on Theo Hernandez and the Spaniard.

“I am so happy for the team, because we did incredible work all week, we beat Torino and now won in the Champions League,” he told Mediaset.

“We all illuminated San Siro, because the fans were also incredible.”

Milan started 2023 in truly appalling fashion with two draws and five defeats in all competition, including a Coppa Italia exit and the 3-0 Supercoppa Italiana humiliation at the hands of rivals Inter.

However, after Friday’s 1-0 Serie A result against Torino and tonight’s European surge, does that mean a new corner has been turned in the season?

“It doesn’t mean anything, we have always had this spirit. We had some bad situations in the past, but now we must look forward. This is good for the team, this team is incredible and listen to these fans – even more incredible!

“Now we must play Serie A and then later we can think about the game in London.”

The second leg is on March 8 and Eric Dier will be suspended for Tottenham Hotspur after picking up a yellow card.
