Fiorentina midfielder Danilo Cataldi is credited with life-saving first aid skills after rushing to help teammate Edoardo Bove, who collapsed during the Serie A match with Inter.

The 22-year-old former Roma player was bending down to do up his laces when he suddenly collapsed near the touchline.

According to news agency ANSA, the initial diagnosis coming from the Careggi Hospital – where Bove has regained consciousness – is that he suffered an epileptic fit, in turn causing a brief cardiac arrest.

Bove is conscious in hospital

Fiorentina are expected to make a statement soon on what happened to the 22-year-old, but the most important thing is that he is conscious and was already breathing autonomously when in the ambulance.

His Viola teammate Cataldi is receiving praise for his decisive actions, as news agency Adnkronos report he rushed to stop Bove biting his tongue and put him in the recovery position before the medical staff managed to get there.

These are essential first aid skills that can save lives in any situation.

The most recent incident in Serie A where a player collapsed was Roma defender Evan N’Dicka against Udinese, which turned out to be caused by a collapsed lung.

News agency ANSA note that Bove was involved in a collision with Denzel Dumfries a few minutes before his collapse, received a knock to the ribs, changed his shirt and complained of feeling dizzy.

  1. In any industry you need people to have basic first aid skills. So only normal to have one player in each squad to have those skills if they get to the player before the medical team gets there. Speed is of the essence and can save lives including your own if your team mates can save you primarily whilst waiting for the medical team.

  2. It is impossible for someone to swallow their tongue that is fake news. Only biting his tongue is possible

  3. Much Respect to Cataldi I really think everybody should learn about first aid, Its very important and Emergencies like this can happen anytime, Thank God Bove is up

  4. Not true, unfortunately many similar incidents happened in the past as well. Sadly, Piermario Morosini died on the pitch in 2012, Astori died in his sleep in 2018. You are just a shark and a troll.

  5. Tom the brainless conspiracy theorist who thinks every medical emergency is the due the covid vaccine. Grow up.
