Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is due to leave hospital next week after a scheduled operation to fit a defibrillator implant, following the 22-year-old’s scary on-pitch collapse during the 17th minute of his side’s Serie A match against Inter last weekend.

When Bove could leave hospital after implant fitting

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bove is due to have the operation on Monday, if not earlier, and will likely be able to leave the Careggi hospital in Florence shortly afterwards.

According to Saturday’s report, he will require another day or two of observation after his surgery, but could theoretically be discharged on Tuesday or Wednesday if he has the surgery on Monday.

Due to Serie A regulations, Bove will not be able to play in the Italian top flight with a defibrillator, much like what happened to Christian Eriksen after he suffered a cardiac arrest with Denmark at EURO 2020, while he was still an Inter player.

Bove was admitted to intensive care after collapsing on the pitch during Fiorentina’s match against Inter on Sunday, but has been awake and alert from the beginning of this week onwards.

He has received visits from several senior figures within the Fiorentina playing and coaching staff, from the FIGC President Gabriele Gravina among several others.

Fiorentina have since been back in competitive action, drawing 2-2 with Empoli in the Coppa Italia before going on to lose 4-3 on penalties.

  1. Will be sad to see him leaving serie A. Hope he gets a good team in europe. Very sad for a young man. Dreams shattered.

  2. Thought we was a good player at Roma, strange that they were willing to sell him. Started well at Fiorentina too.
Sad that his Serie A career is over.

  3. shame I thought he was a good player can’t believe his series a career is over but am glad he’s alive
