Botman confirms Milan and Newcastle offers and drops exit hint

Sven Botman confirms Milan and Newcastle United made bids to sign him in January and admits he could leave Lille at the end of the season.

The Netherland international had been targeted by the Rossoneri and the Magpies in the winter transfer window, but the Ligue 1 side refused to sell him.

“Their offers were concrete,” the defender confirmed during an interview with Ziggo Sport, as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

“Which one do I prefer? Both clubs have positives. Everyone talks about money, but the project is also important.

“See where Manchester City and PSG started from. I think it would be nice to be part of it, although Milan are a marvellous club.”

According to reports in Italy, Botman is determined to move to Milan at the end of the season.

The Rossoneri tried to sign him in January to replace the injured Simon Kjaer, but Lille did not want to sell one of their best players in the middle of the campaign.

However, Botman feels that the right time to move on and join a bigger club could come in the summer.

“I fell well at Lille, we play in the Champions League and I have an important role in the team,” he admitted.

“However, there are opportunities that you must take sometimes and I feel I could be ready for a new step in the summer.”

Milan kept a low profile during the January transfer window. They ended Pietro Pellegri’s loan and signed 18-year-old striker Marko Lazetic from Red Star.
