Palermo director Giorgio Perinetti said flop Mauro Boselli “is the symbol of those who arrived in January.”

The Sicilians had a chaotic campaign, as Perinetti started in charge, then was replaced by Pietro Lo Monaco and brought back again just days after the January transfer window closed.

“Boselli is the symbol of those who arrived in January,” Perinetti told Mediagol today.

“His poor form is explained by the precarious fitness levels with which he got here. The mid-season signings are very far behind the other players.”

Argentine striker Boselli is owned by Wigan Athletic, but joined Palermo on loan in January and has failed to make a mark.

“We’re still trying to figure out what Mauricio Sperduti can do. He was presented to us as a winger, but we’re not sure if it’s for a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2. He is difficult to place in our current 3-5-2 system, as he doesn’t really belong in the side.”

Perinetti effectively confirmed the Sicilians will not be taking up any option to buy Boselli outright at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, he also confirmed Matias Silvestre is staying at Inter despite his poor campaign.

“There is no ‘if’ here – Inter signed Silvestre on loan with mandatory option to buy. It is their duty to buy him. We don’t have to discuss anything, it is all in the contract they signed.”
