Former Inter midfielder Borja Valero suggested the Nerazzurri let the Scudetto slip through their hands after finishing two points behind rivals Milan.

The Nerazzurri did everything they could in their match against Sampdoria this evening, picking up a standard 3-0 victory, but it wasn’t enough as the Rossoneri stormed to an electric 3-0 win in Reggio Emilia, overcoming a tired Sassuolo side. The result saw Milan secure their first league title since the 2010-11 season, ending an 11-year drought.

Speaking to DAZN after this evening’s matches, Borja Valero reacted to Inter’s failure to win the Scudetto and Milan’s success.

“There were several moments in the season when they felt they were already out of the fight for the Scudetto. It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, with this season with Inter, it must do.

“The Scudetto was in their hands, they are feeling, in front of the fans, that they should have win the title. We must also congratulate Milan, in the final part of the season they were good at winning all their games.”

Inter were winter champions heading into the Christmas break, but a poor start to 2022 and a disastrous Derby della Madonnina defeat to Milan saw them fall behind in the title race. Unfortunately for Simone Inzaghi and his team, they couldn’t make up the distance in time, allowing their titles the honour of breaking their dry streak.
