“It was tough to be away from football for so long, but first and foremost it was a dark time for the whole country,” the midfielder told Inter TV.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to get back on the pitch, and even if we don’t have our fans in the stadium, at least we can play again. The games are starting to pile up and it won’t be easy with this heat, but that’s the case for everyone this summer, so we cannot use that as an excuse.”

Inter are up against a Sassuolo side fresh from their 4-1 defeat to Atalanta, although the heroics of Pierluigi Gollini kept the scoreline down.

“Sassuolo are a team who play very good football, their coach Roberto De Zerbi has a very attacking approach that plays out from the back. Hopefully, this will make for an open and entertaining game.”

It certainly was when these sides met earlier this season, as Inter came away from the Mapei Stadium with a 4-3 victory.
