Borja Valero left Fiorentina in July 2017 after falling out with former sporting director Pantaleo Corvino and claimed he was forced out.

But the Viola have brought ‘the Mayor of Florence’ back to the Artemio Franchi and he wanted to focus on ‘happy things’ during the press conference today.

“I’m very happy and thank you for the way you welcomed me,” the Spanish midfielder said. “Today I only want to say happy things.

“I’m very happy to be here. That moment, the farewell, I want to leave it there three years ago. It was a very sad moment.

“I thank Inter who brought me to an important team, where I spent happy years.”

Borja Valero spent three seasons at San Siro and played 100 competitive games for the Nerazzurri.

The 35-year-old appeared 19 times in Serie A 2019-20, when Inter finished second behind Juventus, and he believes he can still contribute at Fiorentina in 2020-21.

“We were close to winning something, it was a shame we didn’t,” Borja Valero said. “In my career, I have had good moments, but I never won, and it would have been the icing on the cake.

“Now, I want to be an extra teammate for the players. I don’t want the affection of the fans to affect my return. I want to win the affection of the people by playing well now and not for the memories.

“I think I’m a valuable player for the club and I want to show those who aren’t convinced that my return is positive.”
