The Italy striker scored in the club's 6-0 win over Newcastle at the weekend, and the 22-year-old, who has missed the majority of the season through injury, has thanked the Merseyside team's fans for their support.

“It was a great thrill for me to score my first Premier League goal for Liverpool,” he exclaimed to reporters.

“Many people thought my season was over, but I have fought hard to be back playing.”
