“Escaping relegation is down to us. The next two games against Newcastle and Norwich will be essential.
“I'm ambitious: I want Sunderland to be saved from relegation, and I want Euro 2016 with the Azzurri.
“I'll give it everything I've got to earn the Azzurri shirt, I promise. I must take advantage of the changing form of the Italian strikers. We no longer have people like [Alessandro] Del Piero, [Francesco] Totti, [Christian] Vieri and [Pippo] Inzaghi. This gives everyone a better chance.
“I'm certain that I'm being considered for the national team. I always receive the letter warning me of a possible call-up, that's got to mean something.
“I always wait until the last minute to book my holidays. I'm certainly hopeful. Four years ago I was called up and I shaved my head. Now I have another bet with my wife, but I can't reveal the details.
“Truth be told, I'd love to be partnered up with my friend [Mattia] Destro. We have a great understanding, on and off the pitch. It's unlikely, but why not?”
