Leonardo Bonucci says their rivals were ‘ready for the funeral’ of Juventus but then ‘forgot the pride and mentality’ of the Old Lady.

The Bianconeri secured a place in the Champions League on the last day of the championship, with a 4-1 win over Bologna.

Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona made sure Andrea Pirlo’s men finished in the top four, the same week they picked up the Coppa Italia with a 2-1 win over Atalanta.

Bonucci sent a message to their rivals, stressing they achieved the target ‘when everyone was preparing for the funeral’.

“They were all ready,” Bonucci wrote on Instagram. “They were there waiting for the final moment to be able to do what they enjoy the most.

“But they forgot the pride of this group, the mentality of this team, the motto of this club.

“It’s true, this season has been mixed, with great performances and then other less beautiful ones. We have lost points along the way that we usually didn’t drop.

“At the end of the season, however, what you get remains. On the pitch.

“Two trophies won by the squad. A goal achieved when everyone was already preparing for the funeral.

“To cheer for something that we didn’t achieve. But FINO ALLA FINE (until the end), we believed in it and we got it, and in the end we celebrated.

“We are aware of how difficult the year has been for our fans too. We missed you. We will meet again next year at our home. At Juventus Stadium and in the Champions League.

“And even if we didn’t achieve the big goals, we had the opportunity to celebrate important and valuable trophies and successes.

“For 10 years it has happened repeatedly. The rest is chatter.

“Fino alla fine, forza Juventus.”
