Thanks to his brace against Venezia yesterday, Leonardo Bonucci has scored five league goals so far, one more than Leo Messi has managed in the Ligue 1.

The Italy international netted two crucial goals against the Serie A strugglers at the Allianz Stadium yesterday.

Juventus‘ win allowed them to secure a Champions League spot with three games to spare, given that Roma were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico.

Bonucci has now scored more league goals than Leo Messi this season. The veteran defender has managed five goals in 21 Serie A appearances, while Messi has netted four in  23 Ligue 1 matches.

Obviously, Messi has contributed to more goals, having delivered 13 assists in the Ligue 1. He also scored five goals in seven Champions League appearances this season, while Bonucci didn’t find the net in as many European fixtures.

Bonucci wore the captain’s armband against Venezia yesterday and could become the Old Lady’s captain next season if Giorgio Chiellini retires or moves to the MLS. Bonucci turned 35 yesterday and could not find a better way to celebrate his special day.
