Leonardo Bonucci assures he found Max Allegri’s joke about not getting the captain’s armband at Juventus funny. ‘I know what I have to do on and off the pitch.’

When the coach was brought back to replace Andrea Pirlo, he was asked in a press conference about the hierarchy for the captaincy.

Allegri responded that Bonucci had gone back to zero when leaving Turin for Milan, so had to begin again, unless he wanted to buy the armband and wear it while playing in the local square.

“The coach often makes jokes and I laughed,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

“With or without an armband, I know what I have to do on and off the pitch. Allegri is fired up and we are ready to get back what we dropped last year. We are in a condition to have a great season.”

Inter won the Scudetto last term, ending the nine-year Juventus dominance, but have since dismantled the side by losing Antonio Conte, Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku.

“Inter remain the team to beat, but there are also Roma, Milan and Lazio to cause problems,” added Bonucci.

“In the title race, details can make all the difference.”
