The Azzurri were held 1-1 in Split on Friday evening, so remain second in Euro 2016 qualifying Group H.

“We could’ve taken all three points, because we had a perfectly good goal disallowed,” Bonucci told reporters.

“After that we conceded on the counter while the team was still celebrating. They were sneaky on the goal and we were naïve, but regardless of their way of interpreting the move, the referee should’ve stopped play.

“In any case, we then did well to stay in the game and with a bit more cynicism would’ve got the victory.

“The four-man defence worked well, as when everyone runs to help out in defence and in attack, the whole team benefits.”

There was scandal and shock when people spotted a swastika mowed into the pitch at the Stadion Poljud in Split.

“I’m speechless, which I think is probably for the best right now.”

Bonucci was also asked about Juventus teammate Andrea Pirlo, who is considering a move to the MLS with New York City FC.

“I hope he stays at Juve, but I don’t know anything about it. Andrea concentrated on the game at hand, like the great professional and champion that he is.

“Of course everyone at Juve and Italy want to keep him with us next season.”
