Messages between Leonardo Bonucci and a leading Juventus ultra were published, showing how he tried to smooth over his return with fans and teammates.

The Corriere della Sera newspaper claims the WhatsApp messages were intercepted by police, who were concerned Bonucci’s comeback after just a year at Milan would spark an angry reaction from the fans.

“It would give me pleasure, when I return from America, if we could have a quick chat so I can explain to you how things really went,” wrote Bonucci to Fabio Trinchero, one of the leaders of the Viking ultras group.

The response was: “With a discussion, we can sort things out.”

According to the investigation and the Corriere della Sera newspaper, Bonucci then informed friends that the situation had been smoothed over.

“He told me that it’s not about me, they are using it as an excuse to continue their attack on the club about the cost of tickets and use of banners.”

As part of the investigation, however, there were also messages suggesting Bonucci found “a frosty reception” from teammates Andrea Barzagli, Claudio Marchisio and Federico Bernardeschi.”
