Juventus captain Leonardo Bonucci admits he ‘couldn’t sleep’ the night before games against ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba although Duvan Zapata and Dusan Vlahovic also gave him a hard time.

The Italy international was interviewed by young Juventus supporters live on the club’s official Twitch channel.

When asked who is the strongest striker he’s ever faced, Bonucci replied: “I think it was Drogba, I wouldn’t sleep the night before a game against him. The same goes for Atalanta‘s Duvan Zapata, I’ve always been concerned by his physicality. Then Vlahovic when he was playing for Fiorentina.”

However, the Italian defender doesn’t only keep a close eye on strikers.

“As an opponent, I admire Luka Modric, the poetry he transmits by playing football is just sensational.”

Bonucci has played with some of the best forwards in the World at Juventus. “Aside from Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez is the teammate who impressed me the most, not only for his mentality.”

What’s the best game he’s ever played?

“I think the one against Chelsea in the Champions League. I man-marked Romelu Lukaku but I made a mistake that could have been costly.”

Bonucci has won eight Serie A titles at Juventus, which one is the one he remembers with the most affection?

“The first one because nobody believed we could make it. The support from fans was crucial, it was thrilling to see so many fans in the streets to celebrate.”

Bonucci has played 429 games with Juventus, scoring 35 goals and winning 17 trophies, including eight Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia.

He became European champion with Italy in 2021 and was named to the Team Of The Tournament. Bonucci made his senior Azzurri in an international friendly against Cameroon in 2010 and has 120 international caps to his name.
