Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci says that it’s impossible to compare Cristiano Ronaldo and Dusan Vlahovic, who ‘needs time to make mistakes and improve.’
The 22-year-old joined Juventus from Fiorentina in an €80m deal in January. Vlahovic scored on his Juventus debut against Hellas Verona and will make his Champions League debut against Villarreal tonight.
Bonucci has travelled with the team to Spain but will likely start on the bench as he hasn’t yet completely recovered from a calf injury. The Italy international has only played one game so far in 2022.
“The games against Villarreal will be very complicated,” the 34-year-old told El Pais.
“Villarreal play good football and have experience, but with Dusan, we have a point of reference who can hold the ball when the opponents defend deep.
“He needs time to make mistakes and improve. With Cristiano, we started every game from 1-0. He was giving energy and mentality to the group. He can’t be compared with Vlahovic who is a classic centre forward and is still very young.”
Allegri also defender Vlahovic yesterday, saying that he ‘must protect’ the new Juventus forward who will play his first European game tonight.
Giorgio Chiellini is one of the players out of action in Spain, but Bonucci and he have formed one of the most iconic defensive partnerships in the history of Italian football over the last decade.
“The secret is the chemistry that one creates with time,” explained Bonucci.
“We’ve played together for more than ten years. At some point, we’ve stolen each others’ secrets. I know what can happen when Giogio moves and the same goes for him.”
