Italy legend Roberto Boninsegna believes Gonzalo Higuain will be Serie A top scorer, but sees himself in Ciro Immobile.
The Argentine is in his debut campaign at Napoli and so far has 17 goals, behind Carlos Tevez on 18 and Immobile’s tally of 19.
“Everyone is motivated, but I think Higuain is the favourite,” Boninsegna told Il Mattino newspaper.
“Napoli no longer have anything to play for in the League, so his teammates can help him to score as many goals as possible.
“This is an important prize for a class hitman, but the team success always comes first. For example, I managed to win both the Scudetto with Inter and the Capocannoniere crown.
“Only Tevez could achieve that double this season, but it’s really a tough battle. I didn’t expect Higuain to do so well, as he was replacing a champion like Edinson Cavani and I thought he’d run into more difficulties.”
Boninsegna won three Scudetti, one with Inter and two at Juventus, plus the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and silver medal for Italy at the 1970 World Cup.
Torino hitman Immobile is pushing for a place at the World Cup in Brazil after 19 goals this term.
“Of the strikers around today, I see myself more in Immobile, but also Higuain and Luca Toni. I was a centre-forward for the penalty area.”
