Lapadula scored a brace on Saturday night against Empoli, which led Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani to first draw the comparison between the two.

The 73-year-old, who scored 113 goals in 197 appearances for the Nerazzurri then backed up those claims in an interview.

"He finishes without much thought, kicking the ball the first time," Bonimba told Tuttosport. "And this is exactly what I did, I pulled the trigger right away, anticipating the defender.

"In the area it is right to do so, shooting quickly and anticipating the defender so that nobody can stop the ball near to the goal.

"But this is an instinct that not all attackers have. I must say this is a nice surprise in recent days. He’s in a very favourable moment right now. I was able to study him on Saturday night on TV when I watched the match with Empoli.

"It seems strange that only now he has exploded in Serie A, at 26-years-old. He could have done it before looking at his potential.

"He is no longer young, but still has six of seven years of career ahead of him. Not all players mature at the same time.

"I scored 163 goals, for now he has just three. But it does not matter. You have to hit the ground running even with three goals. And he did.

"Maybe there was only one other time for him to show that he could do it. I encourage him to always keep the smile that he shows when celebrates after a goal.

"He should celebrate goals with a happiness, it seems that even he does not believe it and is faced with an impossible event.

"It 's really a pleasure to see a player so amazed at himself in Serie A. I hope that this attitude does not change over time."
