There are multiple reports that Chelsea are close to a €60m double swoop for left-back Emerson Palmieri and striker Dzeko, while clubs in China are interested in midfielder Nainggolan.

“I don’t know if the rumours are true or not, but if Roma have the opportunity or even the need to sell in January, it means they don’t want to win. This is a club that plays to finish in a relatively comfortable position, but not to win trophies,” former Roma star Boniek told Radio Centro Suono Sport.

“When the rumours of Nainggolan leaving emerge, it’s because perhaps there is something going on behind the scenes. It’s not a coincidence. We are in a delicate moment of the season. Just six weeks ago, it seemed as if Roma could trouble Juventus for the Scudetto, now there’s the risk they might not even be in the top four. That would be disgraceful.

“The strange thing is, Roma seemed to let go at the best part of their season. When they topped their Champions League group, it seems as if they lost concentration.

“I think as a Roma fan, and if you look at the way we dropped points over the last few games, it makes you feel suicidal! The players know that the top four positions give access to the Champions League, so second or fourth is the same to them. I’m not sure it’s such an advantage.”
