Italy face Poland in a Nations League clash tomorrow and Boniek, the President of the Polish FA and a former Juventus and Roma striker, spoke to Il Corriere della Sera.

“Roberto Mancini is doing an incredible job, he is deeply rejuvenating Italy. There are several strong players in this Italy side. It will be hard for us to come out with a good result.”

Napoli striker Arek Milik, who has been left out of Serie A and Champions League squads by Rino Gattuso and is expected to leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season, could feature in tomorrow’s clash.

“Milik is ready to play,” Boniek confirmed.

“I am sorry because he has always felt well in Naples and I hope everything will be sorted soon because the whole situation is absurd. I can’t really understand it.”

The game will be played at Gdańsk’s Stadion Energa and up to 10,000 fans will be allowed in the stands.

“I don’t think they will all show up,” Boniek admitted.

“People are not accustomed go to stadiums anymore. There is still fear and in Poland there are restrictions on travels on public transports. People want to protect themselves.

“Wearing masks is mandatory and everyone is trying to protect himself.”

Boniek, who scored 54 goals in Serie A with Juve and Roma believes Robert Lewandoski should have won the Ballon d’Or this season.

“I love the French but why Lewandowski should not win the Ballon d’Or?

“He deserved to win it and he would be the first Polish player to achieve it.

“Everyone thinks Ronaldo is getting old if he doesn’t score for two games in a row. Then he carries on scoring and the same goes for Messi and Lewandowski. That is what big players do.”

Also known as “Beautiful at night” for his tendency to score important goals during in European clashes with Juventus, Boniek discussed the comparison with Alvaro Morata who is being called with the same nickname by some Italia media.

“I am sorry but these nicknames go from player to player too quickly. Once you should win some International trophies first. When it will happen, I will be the first person to call Morata ‘Bello di notte’.”
