Roma pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in European football history on Tuesday, overturning a 4-1 deficit against Barca to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

“I was expecting the comeback from Roma, but it’s also clear that 3-0 was something incredible,” Boniek told Pagine Romaniste.

“The Giallorossi victory wasn’t miraculous. In the first match at Camp Nou, they played on par with the Blaugrana.

“Roma had the game of lives, everything went perfectly in terms of dynamics and they scored at the right moments.

“After that, I must also say that this is a victory that greatly rewards Italian football: almost the whole world was supporting Barcelona and Messi, but last night I think everyone was happy with Roma’s win.

“Roma lined up fantastically with three centre-backs, who gave them right balance between pressing high and defending their own goal. They were extraordinary.

“Then there’s Manolas, who didn’t lose a single duel and scored the decisive goal. It was a great victory and I congratulate them.

“Now we’ll see what happens in the semi-finals, every game is different but Roma can do anything.”
