“We put in a very good performance, it’s a pity we got distracted in that situation on their goal, because the team had controlled the game. It was a completely different Milan to the home match,” Bonera told Sky Sport Italia.
“We’re pleased with the team spirit, the way everyone is working together, the only disappointment tonight was the result.”
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out injured and various substitutions, at one point the average age of the team this evening was just 22.
“We’re pleased that the young lads are coming through, as at times you need a little of that wild young spirit. It’s a young Milan with some experienced figures like Simon Kjaer, who is giving a huge hand.
“Naturally, Ibrahimovic is a very important player, but the team has always tried to play the same way, with or without Ibra.”
Sandro Tonali struggled in the first half, yet his through ball sparked the goal for Samu Castillejo.
“It’s part of the growth process, we have faith in the lad and he was decisive today. We’re very pleased with him.”
Sparta Prague surprisingly beat Celtic 4-1 this evening, so Lille are top of the group with eight points, followed by Milan on seven and Prague six. Celtic are already out of the running on just one point.
“We need to win the next games and hope to play the way we did this evening,” concluded Bonera.
