Giacomo Bonaventura insists “it’s not all doom and gloom” for Milan after their derby heartbreak, despite “regret” with Inter’s late equaliser.

Milan failed to keep the gap on Juve closed to five points after Ivan Perisic’s last-gasp equaliser for Inter in a 2-2 draw at San Siro on Sunday, but Bonaventura believes his side have more than enough to be happy about.

“There’s regret, we conceded a goal right at the end,” the midfielder told Milan TV.

“I don’t think we were good at keeping a high centre of gravity, and we suffered from Inter’s physicality.

“This match should give us strength for our next matches. We’re second in the table, it’s not all doom and gloom.

“I’m happy with how I’m playing, but I’m not thinking a lot about the statistics. I’m just thinking about giving my best when I go on the pitch.

“We have to thank the fans, they’ve changed their attitude towards us. We must continue to keep them by our side.

Empoli? We’re going there fired up because we haven’t won there and we have to win.

“Inter? Since I’ve been here, I’ve never scored in the derby. Now I play in midfield, so I’m happy for our forwards’ goals.

“I have other things to be doing, a goal is just one more thing.”
