Sunday sees the city rivals meet in the Derby della Madonnina, with the Nerazzurri having won their opening two games of the season.

The Diavolo lost their first match to Fiorentina, but Bonaventura believes there is not much between the teams.

“We’re doing our best to prepare for this important game,” the 26-year-old told Milan Channel.

“My first derby last year was a great feeling, it was positive despite only drawing. Now I hope to win on Sunday.

“In the early rounds the team has to gel, you have to get to know your new teammates, but I think Sunday will be a good test. However, we’re ready.

“I don’t think there’s a big difference between us and Inter, we’ve both changed a lot, we’re both rebuilding.

“They have several new players since the matches in the summer [in China and the Trofeo TIM]. It was nice to win in the summer, but it would be a great joy to win in the League.

“We’ve worked hard with the Coach [Sinisa Mihajlovic] to improve over the international break, and if we win it would be thanks to the dedication of ourselves and the Coach. We’re still instilling a new mindset.

“Inter will have to watch our for our strikers who have adapted quickly and can cause difficulties for their defence.

“We’ll have to be careful with their new signings who could surprise us.

“I think it’ll be a great match.”

Mihajlovic has been very critical of his side so far, but Bonaventura thinks the Serbian has the right attitude.

“The Coach is right to be tough on us, after we had a bad year. He wants to inspire us, it’s good that he’s forthright with us to try and spur us on.

“Compared to last season we play with a different formation and different attitude. The Coach is trying to drill the attitude into us the attitude that we must never give an inch.”
