Atalanta revelation Giacomo Bonaventura has admitted that he has hopes of playing for the Italian international side.
The 23-year-old has been in great form this season which has seen his name linked with a possible first call-up to the Giro Azzurro.
“It’s obvious that I’d like to be part of the national set-up,” the midfielder told Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday afternoon.
“However, the national team is more of a dream for me than an obsession…”
Bonaventura is another successful product of the Atalanta youth system and he’s thanked the club for their education.
“I owe a lot to Atalanta, they have a fantastic youth sector,” he added. “Had I grown up at another club then I doubt I would have made my debut in Serie A at the age of 18.
“This club gives its kids visibility.”
Bonaventura has played for Italy at Under-19 and U-20 level.
