Bologna have bid farewell to defender Riccardo Calafiori on social media, thanking him for his role in an ‘historic’ season for the Rossoblu in Serie A last term.

The 22-year-old has joined Premier League side Arsenal in a permanent deal for a reported fee of €50m (£42m), which includes around €5m in bonuses. He has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, running until June 30, 2029.

Bologna thank Calafiori

“Thank you Richy, you were one of the key figures in this historic season. Good luck with your new adventure,” Bologna wrote on social media.

The club also provided a brief, straight-to-the-point statement on the club website, which read: “Bologna FC 1909 announces that it has sold the performance rights of defender Riccardo Caladiori to Arsenal FC on a permanent basis.”
