Reports are surging again that Bologna are ready to sack coach Sinisa Mihajlovic and bring in Gennaro Gattuso.

The rumour has been doing the rounds for several months now, as the rapport between Mihajlovic and President Joey Saputo has become increasingly strained.

Saputo is reportedly flying in from Canada for crisis talks with his coach and is already planning for the next step.

According to La Repubblica, the patron has chosen Gattuso as the next tactician, whether that is during the current campaign or at the start of the next season.

Mihajlovic has been at the Stadio Dall’Ara since January 2019 and the club made it possible for him to continue coaching even from a hospital room where he was undergoing chemotherapy and had a bone marrow transplant.

However, their progress stalled and Mihajlovic recently confirmed to Sky Sport Italia he had been asked to secure a top 10 finish this term.

Gattuso had originally signed on with Fiorentina over the summer, but lasted only two weeks before terminating the contract by mutual consent due to disagreements with the club over transfer strategy.

He was at Napoli before that and his contract was allowed to expire.

  1. Hmmm, what to think of this? If Gattuso couldn’t win a title with Napoli, considering the talent they had, how much more success is he likely to have with Bologna given their roster?

  2. @Basta Poco, neither Sarri nor Ancelotti were able to win the title with Napoli either. And it looks like Spalletti won’t either. So, not sure one can pick on Gattuso for that.

  3. Once ADL starts to doubt you as a coach, or even a player, and giving his notorious ‘no faith in so and so’ interviews, no one will succeed in Naples.

  4. @Vero Rossonero Don’t get me wrong, I’m not faulting him for his time at Napoli. Rather my comment was geared towards Bologna‘s recent status as mid-table runners (at best) if not bottom half dwellers. Maybe Gattuso is the spark that gets Bologna to make a push into Europa league competition, though he does have his work cut out for him.
