Bologna assistant manager Emilio De Leo reveals Sinisa Mihajlovic thought they “deserved to win” after a 1-1 draw with Udinese.

Stefano Okaka was allowed a free header from a Rodrigo De Paul free kick, while Rodrigo Palacio only managed to tap in the equaliser in stoppages.

“The mentality we want to drill into the squad is that we don’t look at the difficulties, but at the opportunities,” De Leo told Sky Sport Italia.

“The mentality we want to drill into the squad is that we don’t look at the difficulties, but at the opportunities,” De Leo told Sky Sport Italia.

“We allowed Udinese to take the lead in one of their rare forays into our half. The real regret is that we found the equaliser too late, because we had the momentum and could’ve won the game. Our coach believes we deserved to win.”

The game seemed to change when 18-year-old Andri Fannar Baldursson came off the bench and provided more creativity.

“We work on football principles, so when there weren’t enough spaces, we had to try to stretch the Udinese defenders out and create those gaps.

“Perhaps the adjustment of shape in the closing 20 minutes helped take away reference points for their defence and allowed us to create numerous chances.

“It is a pity that we conceded again, but I feel that in the second half we barely had any threats from Udinese. There was an error on the goal from a set play and it’s something we need to work on, but the team defends in a balanced way.”
