Bologna are still waiting to sell Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal and have maintained daily contact with free agent Mats Hummels as they look to snap up the veteran defender.

The Rossoblu have been unable to set up a deal with the Gunners, whose latest offer has failed to convince as at least €50m in cash is wanted, creating a gap of around €10m between the two parties. Talks have also been opened with FC Basel regarding a lower resale clause.

In the meantime, Bologna have been looking to bolster Vincenzo Italiano’s squad as they look to show their best in their upcoming Champions League campaign and identified Hummels as an interesting opportunity.

Page 21 of today’s Corriere dello Sport details how Bologna do not want to be caught flat-footed in the transfer market should the Calafiori deal go through, so have been in daily contact with Hummels’ agent to try and secure a deal.

The 35-year-old German centre back proved himself in the Champions League last season and is still a free agent after his Borussia Dortmund contract expired at the start of this month.
