Bologna have officially confirmed the imminent departure of Thiago Motta, freeing up the coach to join the interested Juventus.

The 41-year-old Brazilian-Italian tactician oversaw a historic season in Emilia-Romagna this term as his side reached the Champions League for the first time in decades, taking them to the biggest stage in European football.

Thiago Motta’s electric brand of football attracted the attention of Juventus, who are now widely expected to appoint the coach in the summer, reading to start a new project in Turin following the acrimonious exit of Massimiliano Allegri.

Bologna confirm Thiago Motta exit

In a statement released today, Bologna confirmed that Thiago Motta will not sign a new contract with the club, allowing him to leave for free at the end of June, freeing him up to join Juventus.

Across his 75 matches in charge of the Rossoblu, the 41-year-old tactician won 35 matches, drew 23 and lost 17, averaging 1.71 points per game.

Bologna president Joey Saputo discussed the work of Thiago Motta, saying: “In these two years I have met a prepared and winning coach, who has given the team a brilliant playing identity.

“The achievement of qualifying for the Champions League consigns him and all the players to the history of our Club. I would have liked him to stay at Bologna, but I can only thank him and his staff for these wonderful seasons and wish him the best for the future.”
