Bologna director Claudio Fenucci confirms the Rossoblu need a new centre-back after Riccardo Calafiori’s exit so they are waiting for a reply from Mats Hummels.

Bologna have confirmed Calafiori’s exit through the club’s director Fenucci.

The club’s CEO provided the latest transfer updates during Thjis Dallinga’s unveiling press conference on Friday.

“Calafiori’s exit forces us to look for a new centre-back,” Fenucci said, as quoted by Sky Sport Italia.

“Then we’ll wait for the end of the transfer window to see what we need. We’ll play more than 26 games from August to January and must keep an eye on the UEFA list.”

Bologna confirm Calafiori exit as Italy defender set for Arsenal medical

German centre-back Hummels has emerged as Bologna’s priority to replace Calafiori, but the ex-Borussia Dortmund star is taking time after hearing the offer from the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“It’s normal, we talked to him not long time ago. It is fair that he thinks about it so he can come here with the right motivation,” said Fenucci.

In the meantime, Calafiori is expected to land in London tonight.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Italy international will undergo the first part of medical tests with the Gunners before joining Arteta and the rest of the team in the USA.

Arsenal will complete the defender’s signature for a fee between €45m and €50m, including add-ons.

Calafiori had joined Bologna from Basel for just €4m last summer and made his senior Azzurri debut this past June, only a few days before starting for the Azzurri in their first EURO 2024 game against Albania.
