Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga is having his medical with Atalanta and at €22m is set to become their most expensive ever signing.
Tomorrow will be the Ivory Coast international’s 25th birthday and he may well mark it by signing the contract with Atalanta.
Boga was photographed at the La Madonnina clinic in Milan for his medical this afternoon.
A former Chelsea academy graduate, Boga also went on loan to Rennes, Granada and Birmingham City before the €10m sale to Sassuolo in 2018.
His contract was due to expire in June 2023 and he has contributed three assists in 12 Serie A appearances so far this season.
At a reported €22m, this would make Boga an all-time club record signing for Atalanta.
The current record for this club is Luis Muriel, as the striker cost €21.2m when picked up from Sevilla in the summer of 2019.
Goalkeeper Juan Musso came close, as Atalanta paid Udinese €20m for the Argentina international just six months ago.
There’s a big drop-off after that, to Marten de Roon at €16.7m from Middlesbrough in 2018, Cristian Romero €16m from Juventus in 2020, Mario Pasalic and Aleksei Miranchuk both worth €14.5m in 2020-21 from Chelsea and Lokomotiv Moscow respectively.
