Kevin-Prince Boateng explains why he returned to Serie A with Sassuolo – “there’s pasta here…”

The forward won the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt last season, but surprisingly left in favour of a return Italy.

“There’s pasta here,” Boateng explained to Bild.

“Very, very good pasta. Recently I went to a restaurant and it was so good that I even went into the kitchen and hugged the chef.

“Food this good isn’t normal, you have to be careful not to get fat.

“I didn’t just leave Germany to be closer to my family, but also because [Niko] Kovac was gone. It’s no secret that I went to Eintracht for him, but more than anything I wanted to leave a positive memory with a German team.

“Knowing I can return to Frankfurt and the people will welcome me with open arms is beautiful. Finally I wasn’t kicked out!”

As he alludes to, the Ghanaian international has been a controversial character in his career, but he feels he’s more mature now.

“I have to say I’ve been working harder for the past three or four seasons. Before I wasn’t great in terms of discipline.

“Now I’m always professional, including off the pitch. For now I’d give my career a seven out of 10. Sometimes I’ve been close to an eight, but at others I’ve been below five.”
