Matteo Darmian made all Inter fans hurl insults after he opted for a back-heel when clear on goal against Manchester City – including coach Simone Inzaghi.

See how the game unfolds on the Liveblog.

The Champions League opening fixture at the Etihad was a very balanced affair and the Nerazzurri had an extraordinary opportunity to open the scoring on 53 minutes.

However, rather than go for goal when sent clear down the right by Mehdi Taremi’s slide-rule pass, Darmian opted for a bizarre back-heel flick assist that nobody was expecting, least of all Nicolò Barella.

The odd decision had fans all over the world screaming at their television sets, probably the same things that Inzaghi was screaming from the touchline.

The coach was caught on camera swearing at his player, complete with a “Matteo!” at the end of it.
