It’s a bitter 39th birthday for Roma captain Francesco Totti with fears he’ll be out for two months after a thigh strain.

He came on at half-time during yesterday’s 5-1 victory over Carpi, helped create a goal and then went off injured, all in the space of six minutes.

Totti felt a pull on the back of his right thigh after a sprint towards Zeljko Brkic and was immediately hauled off.

He is due for tests today, but several papers already suggest Il Capitano will be out for around two months.

It’s not a good way to celebrate his 39th birthday, as the Roma legend was born on September 27 1976.

His entire career was spent with the Giallorossi jersey on his back, scoring 300 goals in all competition.

Totti isn’t the only player waiting on test results today, as Seydou Keita (thigh) and Edin Dzeko (sprained knee) also went off during the win against Carpi.

“This was a Pyrrhic victory,” noted Coach Rudi Garcia.

The Giallorossi travel to BATE Borisov in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Alessandro Florenzi and to a lesser degree Iago Falque are also in doubt for that clash.
