Yann Bisseck remembered when he ‘started scoring own goals’, his first few months at Inter and his qualities on the pitch.

The 22-year-old German centre back joined the Nerazzurri from Aarhus GF in July in a deal worth around €7m, adding a talented defender to Simone Inzaghi’s squad.

Bisseck hasn’t managed to break into the Inter squad yet, making just two cameo appearances for a total of seven minutes so far this season.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN via TMW, Bisseck first remembered the early days of his relationship with football.

“I don’t remember when I started playing football, but my parents say I was 3-4 years old. My passion has remained intact over time.

“In 2006 the World Cup was played in Germany, the country where I grew up, and I saw a couple of matches in Cologne. It was something extraordinary for a child like me at the time. It all started there.”

He revealed an amusing story about his first game.

“My parents say I was very confused, that I started scoring own goals. In a way it’s a funny story.”

The 22-year-old named his childhood idol.

“Probably Henry, he was an extraordinary footballer.”

The German defender was asked about the first pitch he remembers playing on.

“It wasn’t in good condition, there was no grass but only stones. These are the experiences that make you strong.”

Bisseck spoke about how he became a defender.

“Striker, like almost all kids. As time went by, I got taller and taller, and the coaches started moving me to defence.”

He commented on when he identifies the weak spots of his opponents.

“Usually before the match, the technical staff and match analysts try to explain to me the weaknesses of the opponents.

“On the pitch, however, players follow their instincts, in the end it matters who has the better at that precise moment.”

The 22-year-old touched on his style on the pitch.

“A modern defender, I like to have the ball at my feet and play it. I like to go forward and score, but also defend. Sometimes a good slide tackle in the area is better than scoring a goal.”

The German centre back discussed life in locker rooms.

“Sometimes you don’t know if others like you, but here at Inter I immediately felt at home. Everyone welcomed me well and it was easy to settle in.”

Finally, Bisseck was asked which matters more in football – talent or determination?

“Probably the latter, because I know a lot of talented kids who didn’t make it. You need the right mix, hard work is important.”
