SportBild reports Bayern Munich have opened preliminary talks with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as Xabi Alonso appears likely to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season.

Bayern Munich directors have opened preliminary talks with Italian coach De Zerbi, SportBild reports.

The reliable German media claim Bayern are open to paying De Zerbi’s €13m clause, but the Italian is not the only candidate for the role.

Bayern prioritise Xabi Alonso, but the ex-Spain international appears likely to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season; therefore, the Bavarians have made contact with the ex-Sassuolo boss.

Journalist Christian Falk reported earlier in March that new Bayern director Max Eberl finds De Zerbi ‘very interesting.’

According to Bild, Bayern Munich want to reach an agreement with a new coach by May to plan the summer transfer campaign.

Bayern Munich announced in February that Thomas Tuchel would leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the current campaign.
