Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon insists Gokhan Inler will not leave the club this January.

There had been speculation that Swiss midfielder could leave in this transfer window after struggling for playing time at San Paolo this season.

“There are no players who have asked to leave, even those who have played less,” Bigon told journalists as Manolo Gabbiadini and Ivan Strinic were presented to the media.

“The group is together, everyone believes in our project, we’ve already won a trophy [the Supercoppa Italiana].

“Inler has absolutely not asked to leave, Gokhan is a model professional who always gives 100 per cent, even when he’s not always playing.

“At the time his departure is not something we’re thinking about.”

The transfer chief also discussed the possibility of Napoli making further moves in the transfer window following the acquisition of Gabbiadini and Inler.

“The market is always open, especially in January.

“We can’t say what will happen between now and February 2 [when the window shuts], often the market offers unexpected opportunities.

“At the moment we’ve achieved our original objectives, with the purchases of Gabbiadini and Strinic Napoli have addressed our two most pressing needs, but they’ll also help us for the future.

“They are two players who we can rely on in the future, we’ve followed them for years and have completed the deal with great timing.

“We filed their contracts on January 5 [when the Italian transfer window opened], at one minute past midnight, but from now until February 2 I don’t know what will happen.

“Will anyone leave? At the moment we’re not considering that, but you never know. [Christian] Maggio and [Giandomenico] Mesto leaving is not likely, they could renew.

“We were focused on two areas, the left flank and a wide striker. We’ve addressed those two areas, by getting Strinic and Gabbiadini.

“I don’t know what will happen between now and February 2, maybe we’ll consider other options if something presents itself.

“Donati [Bayer Leverkusen player linked with Napoli]? He’s an interesting player, he’s improved a lot since moving to Germany.

“He’s been doing well for two years, but at this moment in time it’s not something we’re working on and it’s not a firm idea.

“He’s Italian, and that’s interesting. We’ll evaluate whether something could happen in the future.”
