Parma have confirmed Jonathan Biabiany’s move to Milan failed when a cardiac problem was discovered.

“We immediately stopped Biabiany’s sporting activity,” general manager Pietro Leonardi announced this afternoon.

“On September 1 a cardiac arrhythmia appeared that had never previously shown itself. On July 10 he underwent a medical in Parma and was given the all-clear.

“Out of respect for his privacy, we left out some truths over the last few days. Jonathan will only get back on to the field when we have total safety for his health.”

The club decided to make the announcement after reports of the cardiac arrhythmia appeared in Il Giornale newspaper on Wednesday.

However, Leonardi insisted Milan medical staff only alerted Parma to the problem “after the negotiations had already broken down.”

This would suggest that the official reason given – Cristian Zaccardo’s refusal to make the move to Parma in exchange – was still a decisive factor.

The Ducali also confirmed Mattia Cassani will have to go under the knife for a back problem “that will keep him away from the pitch for two to four months.

“Gabriel Paletta’s injury, however, is to be treated with care, but less worry. I don’t think it will take too long to recover.”
