La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote that Gianluca Scamacca ‘probably played the best game of his career’ at Anfield, but four of his teammates had a key role in a 3-0 win at Anfield, while Konstantinos Tsimikas was ‘a disaster’ for the Reds.

Atalanta made history against Liverpool at Anfield in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

A brace from Gianluca Scamacca, the first Italian player to score two goals away at Liverpool, inspired La Dea’s win but Italian newspapers are full of praise for all Atalanta players and Gian Piero Gasperini on Friday.

Player Ratings: Liverpool 0-3 Atalanta – Scamacca message for Spalletti as La Dea stun Anfield

Scamacca was rated 9/10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport. The pink paper wrote that the Anfield match was ‘probably the best performance’ in the striker’s career.

Goalkeeper Juan Musso (7.5), midfielders Marten De Roon (7.5), Mario Pasalic (7.5) and Ederson (8) received the highest ratings after Scamacca.

Charles De Ketelaere provided the assist for Scamacca’s second goal after two ‘soft’ backheel passes in the first half so he was ‘only’ rated 7/10. Isak Hien’s 6.5 was the lowest rating for an Atalanta player, which says everything about their performance in Liverpool.

According to the pink paper, the Reds’ left-back Tsimikas was the worst player on the pitch on Thursday.

The Greece international ‘struggled’ against Davide Zappacosta and Atalanta created many opportunities down that flank in the first half, while the 27-year-old Liverpool defender was subbed off during the break.
