Fabrizio Corona says RAI ‘censored’ him by not airing evidence he brought during a TV program on Tuesday, which allegedly involved Nicolò Zaniolo, and accuses three more Serie A players who, however, are not believed to be under investigation.
The controversial gossip columnist was the main guest of the RAI TV program ‘Avanti Popolo’ on Tuesday evening. He had promised he would name more players involved in a betting scandal, but nothing new emerged from his extended interview.
Corona had said in August that Nicolò Fagioli was suffering from gambling addiction and it later came to light that the Juventus midfielder was effectively involved in an investigation.
He also mentioned Nicolò Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali last week, but also Nicola Zalewski, who is not under investigation and has denied allegations, saying through his lawyers that he would sue Corona.
Corona, also known as the ‘king of Paparazzi’ in Italy, complained about RAI’s ‘censorship’ in an Instagram story last night after ‘Avanti Popolo’ was aired.
“I was censored and I didn’t expect it,” he said, as quoted by Il Corriere della Sera.
“I am sorry for you all. Unfortunately, they did not allow me to say all I knew and show on TV the great work I’d been doing for six days without sleeping.
“At some point, the anchorwoman said she would launch an audio file, which wasn’t even aired. Can you believe it?”
Corona alleged that the audio contained “the voices of Zaniolo and three other Serie A players talking about gambling and a lot of money.”
Corona also spoke to Striscia La Notizia while receiving the satirical award ‘Tapiro d’Oro.’
He said that Roma winger Stephan El Shaarawy, Juventus defender Federico Gatti and Lazio centre-back Nicolò Casale are also involved in the scandal, but none is currently under investigation.
Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli said Gatti had lent him €40,000, but his teammate was not aware that he had gambled on football games.
