Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic has equalled Gonzalo Higuain and Hernan Crespo record for goals scored in a single calendar year in Serie A and has just three fewer than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 21-year-old is the second-most prolific striker in Europe’s top five leagues in 2021 with 30 goals.

He scored one against Bologna yesterday, so he now has 13 goals in 16 appearances this season and 30 in 40 matches in 2020. Nobody has a better record in the history of the Tuscans, not even Gabriel Omar Batistuta or Luca Toni.

Vlahovic scored 44 goals in 101 games with Fiorentina and has equalled Higuain and Crespo’s record for goals in a single calendar year.

He can join Cristiano Ronaldo at 33, becoming the third-most prolific striker in Italy’s top flight after Gunnar Nordahl (36 goals in 1950) and Felice Placido Borel (41 goals in 1933).

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 33 goals at Juventus in 2020.

Fiorentina will face Salernitana and Sassuolo at home and Hellas Verona away before the Christmas break.

Vlahovic’s contract expires in June 2023 and Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso revealed in October that the Serbian star won’t sign a contract extension with the Tuscans.
