Matteo Gabbia celebrates Inter-Milan winner EPA-EFE/MATTEO BAZZI

Milan centre-back Matteo Gabbia and Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone were rated as the best performing Italy players in Serie A after an entertaining Derby della Madonnina and a hectic 2-2 draw at the Via del Mare.

Gabbia got the match-winning goal in the 89th minute of Milan’s decisive 2-1 win over Inter in San Siro on Sunday evening. He could have been proud of his performance up until that point anyway, but he was deserving to come away with the winner.

Lecce had Falcone to thank for keeping them in the game in their chaotic 2-2 draw with Parma. Though he conceded twice in injury-time, the 29-year-old put in a series of heroic saves one-on-one.

Gabbia and Falcone both came away with average ratings of 7.5/10 from the Italian press.

Two young attacking midfielders in Tommaso Baldanzi and Daniel Maldini came away with average ratings of 7/10 after their performances for Roma and Empoli. The former grabbed the Giallorossi third in a 3-0 win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.

Italy international Matteo Politano was also given a rating of 7/10 after his role in Napoli’s 0-0 draw away at Juventus, as did Genoa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, despite a 2-0 loss to Venezia
