Besiktas vice president and coach have confirmed they are confident of signing Diego Godin from Cagliari.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Uruguay international has been put on the market and the Turkish club have confirmed talks with the former Atletico Madrid and Inter man.

“The player asked for time to thin, but we are optimistic,” Besiktas vice president Emre Kocadag told Hurriyet.

“We have been following Godin for two years, his experience could be very useful in the Champions League. In addition, his offensive and defensive skills are perfect for our playing style,” head coach Sergen Yalçın continued.

Godin, 35, joined Cagliari on a free transfer one year ago and has two years left in his contract with the Sardinians.
