“He’s a player who has made history for every team he’s played with,” Bertolacci told SportMediaset.

“If he came to Milan he’d be a great signing.”

The Italian international then discussed his move to the Diavolo, believing last season at Genoa – who had co-owned him with Roma – paved the way for his move.

“I knew it was an important season. It had to be my year. It was special, I managed to make the final leap. I showed my skills and my determination to get to the top.

“With the right determination I made the leap, now it’s up to me to confirm my qualities.

“My role has always been midfield, but I’ll adapt to the needs of the team and the Coach [Sinisa Mihajlovic].

“He’s a person with a great personality and great ideas. He’s given us so much drive, respect and trust, which was missing a bit last season.”
