Former Inter midfielder Nicola Berti says it’s ‘always nice’ to steal a player to Milan, but fears the Nerazzurri could sell Lautaro Martinez.

Inter are on the verge of signing Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer from Milan.

The Turkey international has confirmed he’s reached an agreement with the Nerazzurri and according to multiple reports in Italy, he will undergo his medical tomorrow.

“It’s always nice to steal a player to Milan,” Berti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Jokes aside, it’s a convincing signing from a tactical perspective, even if he was playing at right-winger at Milan, while he will be one of the three central midfielders at Inter. His technical skills are indisputable,” the former midfielder continued.

However, Berti, believes another Inter player could increase the Nerazzurri’s quality in the middle of the park.

“[Stefano] Sensi is so strong. He had played better than [Andres] Iniesta in his first two months under [Antonio] Conte, but then he’s had too many injuries. All these problems can have an impact on the player’s mentality as well.

“Conte proved to be an added value, I am sorry he left,” the 54-year-old continued.

“[Simone] Inzaghi is the right choice to replace him. Conte and Inzaghi use a similar system and Lazio have always played well under Inzaghi. It’s a great challenge for him.”

The Serie A champions may sell Achraf Hakimi to keep the books balanced, but Berti fears the Nerazzurri could sell Lautaro Martinez as well.

“It would be a sacrilege to divide one of the best attacking partnerships in Europe,” he said.

“Lautaro’s price tag is high but I won’t relax until the transfer window is over because there are a few clubs that could afford him.”
